Our Story
After more than a year of planning, preparation, and prayer, Redemption Church began at the start of 2011, a small group of people committed to worshipping Jesus in a living room in Englewood. The mission on our hearts was simple: to be the church, rather than “go to” a church. We were committed to planting the Gospel in South Denver, seeing it take deep root in people lives, and watching it shape their lives and our growing community. This is why the name “Redemption” is significant for us: we believe Jesus can and will redeem the broken, hurting, rebellious, and despised.
Over the next year, more people showed up to our Sunday night gatherings, and we began to see deep, real friendships formed around the Gospel. We shared meals, shared life, prayed together, laughed together, and cried together. As we grew together, really becoming the “family” of God, we kept asking the question: “How can we bring the redemption of Jesus to those around us?” We shared and listened and talked and dreamed about living together in such a way that people would see this redemption in us. This small group became the first Redemption Group of our church, a small group of people with a new identity in Jesus, sent to reach its neighborhood with the Gospel.
In the fall of 2011 God graciously provided a meeting place that could hold more than our living room couches, a place for all of our scattered Redemption Groups to meet and celebrate what God is doing in their specific communities. This building is one more reminder of God’s generosity and faithfulness to us, never letting us forget that while he is using us, ultimately, he is the one building this church.
